Co-op and Internship Testimonials
Thomas Steffen, Senior,
4 Quarters in the Co-op Program (at time of site visit),
Majoring in Electrical Engineering,
Employed at MacAulay Brown
What duties did you perform during your co-op employment?
"I am assigned to the MacAulay Brown contractor team at Wright Patterson Air Force Base supporting the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Electronic Warfare Anechoic Chamber (EWAC) test facility. As an engineering co-op, I have had the opportunity to take part in various research efforts undertaken at the facility. Most recently, I have been involved with the design, development, fabrication, and testing of prototype Re-Locatable Jammer (RLJ) system. Other efforts have included: the evaluation of antenna systems and taking antenna pattern measurements, the redesign and fabrication of an in-house mono-pulse radar test asset, the pre-flight evaluation of a towed decoy system, and performing computer system hardware upgrades."
Most beneficial aspect of being enrolled in the co-op program?
"Being able to see and work with practicing engineers and having an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the use of sophisticated laboratory test instrumentation and diagnostic tools. I have enjoyed being able to work with these engineers and they are always happy to help me with any questions that I may have. I was also amazed at the correlation between my classes and my co-op job."
