Co-op and Internship Testimonials

Rebecca Bunger, Senior,
1 Quarter in the Co-op Program (at time of testimonial),
Majoring in Mass Communication with emphasis in Public Relations,
Employed at Holiday Inn Dayton Mall.

What duties did you perform during your co-op employment?

"While working in the sales department, I pulled and made master files, made full dinner, breakfast and wedding sales packets, pulled banquet event order sheets, in addition to a variety of other duties. While working the front desk, I provided customer service while answering the phone. I learned about the OPERA system including making reservations, setting up room blocks, guest rates, cancelations, and the priority club. I was also able to shadow the Banquet Manager, Human Resources, the General Manager and Accounting."

Most beneficial aspect of participating in the co-op program:

"I learned about the hospitality industry from this internship. I got to see the sales team in action, and now I understand their role in the company. The sales team at best is the “heart” of the company since this is where the most revenue is brought in. I also gained a better understanding of how important communication is within a company and how difficult it is to keep every department informed on the current events scheduled with the hotel. Details are constantly changing and it is important to make sure everyone is updated of these changes."
