Use Tools Designed for the TaskUsing the right tools to design and build a career results in a more solid product. Formal assessments help students develop personal career preferences by interpreting personal style, identifying interests, clarifying values, and assessing skills. Advise your student to meet with a Career Services adviser, who gathers information about a student's situation, then determines what assessments are needed. The Career Services adviser administers the assessments, and reviews the results with the student. The Career Services adviser also guides the student in creating a chronicle of activities, interests, skills, and experience. The written chronicle demonstrates directions the student may want to explore, or identifies areas the student wishes to avoid. The student's written chronicle is the foundation for a professional résumé. Résumé styling eludes even the most experienced practitioners. Career Services advisers are in daily contact with employers, noting employer impressions and incorporating employer input into résumé creation. |
