Follow the Step by Step ProcessVisualize career exploration as a set of stairsteps. Students move up the stairsteps as they clarify their options or when the range of choices narrows. The student temporarily returns to a lower step when a change in direction is anticipated or additional information is needed. Students must gain self-knowledge first, in order to identify criteria for career satisfaction and success. Understanding themselves first, students can then identify appropriate careers, and subsequently identify relevant academic majors. As they move forward in career exploration, students investigate options and make realistic choices.
