Rewards Parents Can Offer for a Job Well Done

Offering appropriate support to a student who is building experience is vital to progress. While always well-intended, not all intervention and advice is helpful. Career Services has suggestions for appropriate rewards and interventions during the "Building Experience" phase:

  • Purchase a Palm Pilot or Planner for your student.
  • Gift the student with a deposit for an apartment.
  • Provide a car downpayment.
  • Purchase or give a gift certificate for an interview-appropriate, new suit.
  • Present the student with a leather portfolio to carry résumés and other interview materials.
  • Fund airplane fare to and from co-op or internship experiences or professional conferences.
